  Established in 1950 under the Monetary Law Act the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is the apex institution in the financial sector in Sri Lanka. The CBSL was set up by the post independence Government in recognition of the importance of an active monetary policy regime and a dynamic financial sector to support and promote economic growth.

The Central Bank has established three Regional Offices at Matara, Anuradhapura and Matale with a view to promoting regional economic activities with the assistance of the banking sector. The first Regional Office was opened at Matara in 1981 and the second and third Regional Offices at Anuradhapura and Matale in 1982 and 1985, respectively.



  People's Bank in Sri Lanka is over 47 years old and one of the largest banks in Sri Lanka. The People's Bank was set-up by the state and is now a key financial institution in the country. It has over 11,664,445 loyal deposit account holders, 8968 dedicated employees and an unmatched outreach of 325 Branches, 317 Service Centres and 238 ATMs in addition to the Corporate Branch.

  Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) was the country's first telecommunications company and is the successor to the former government owned Telecommunications Department. It leads the telecommunication industry with 87 per cent of the fixed line network. In 1996 SLT was incorporated as a public limited liability company and in 1997 NTT Communications Corporation invested USD 225 million to take a 35 per cent stake in SLT. This was subsequently transferred to NTT Com.

  Mobitel Private Limited is Sri Lanka's most dynamic mobile telephony operator as well as one of the longest running. Since being acquired by SLT in 2002, it has grown in leaps and bounds and is now on par technologically with the very latest in the Sri Lankan telecommunications industry.

  National Savings Bank is the Premium Licensed Specialized Bank in Sri Lanka owned by the Govt. of Sri Lanka. It is the only bank whose deposits are fully guaranteed by the Govt. of Sri Lanka as expressed explicitly in the statute governing the Bank: The repayment of the monies deposited in the bank and of the interest thereon and the payment due on the surrender of a savings certificate shall be guaranteed by the Government of Sri Lanka.

  Sri Lankan Airlines Limited (previously known as Air Lanka) is the National Airline of Sri Lanka. It operates an Airbus fleet of 14 aircraft.

Sri Lankan Airlines has been added to the Registry of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The International Air Transport Association launched IOSA in 2003, and it remains a key element in IATA's drive to provide benchmarking of safety and quality standards and procedures among airlines throughout the global industry.

  Airport Aviation Services Sri Lanka (AASL) manages the Bandaranaike International Airport which is recognised as one of the best airports in the world. Bandaranaike International Airport is an Aviation hub and play a role similar to that of Hong Kong.
